The land grab threatens to destroy the declining dynasty
Plot
When the vast Lawson cattle farm is left without a legacy, rival factions in Australia sense an opportunity to take control. The series was filmed in the Northern Territory and South Australia in locations so remote they are barely inhabited – let alone on screen. Filming locations include the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park – with special permission from the traditional owners – and Tipperary Station, a real-life working cattle station so big it has its own airport and school.
Yes, the series will be compared to Yellowstone
Yes, it has the same compelling stories, conflicts, and crazy characters. Yes, many similar problems can be pointed out. For me, two main problems are what happens simply because you need to move the plot forward.
Stories that make no sense
The family patriarch simply decides on succession without actually weighing the pros and cons of each option. Second, there are plot holes that exist for a similar reason, namely to advance the plot. The station is said to be the size of Belgium, but is run by a family (4 members at first, later a few more members) and what appears to be a skeleton crew.
Tensions rise, conflicts deepen, passions rise
But of course greedy companies try to take that away from them. I also didn’t like that everything was constantly being built. and then within half an hour things are (sort of) resolved.
The camera work is good, the nature is beautiful
But it’s not a bad show if you can look past that.
