Writer Gary Dauberman told Den of Geek in June 2019 that his goal with the new version of Salem’s Lot is to make vampires scary again
Plot
A writer returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book, only to find that the townspeople are being attacked by a bloodthirsty vampire. It wants to move away from the more sensual and romanticized undead that have flooded pop culture for the better part of the last quarter century, thanks to everything from Interview with the Vampire to Twilight and The Vampire Diaries. While Ben is reading an old newspaper on microfilm in the library, the headline reads “Local Couple Victims of DUI.” The paper was allegedly printed in 1956, at a time when the term “DUI” was not yet in use.
Well, it was disappointing
Featured in Half in the Sack: Top 10 Horror Movies (2024) Part 1 (2024). Sunset Written and performed by Gordon Lightfoot Courtesy of Warner Records In arrangement with Warner Music Group Film & TV Licensing. Having read the novel several times and watched the 1979 TV series several times over the years, I was really looking forward to it.
I don’t think if you’ve ever read the book, you wouldn’t know what you’re missing
I realize that it’s a lot to ask to cram a book into a two-hour movie, a lot of story and character background has to be sacrificed. All of our main characters are there, some visibly altered to fit 21st century norms, but not well developed. A lot of liberties are also taken with the plot, some for no apparent reason it seems.
Like, no way
But the most disgusting thing about this movie is simple: if you’re a horror movie fan, it’s not scary. Take a look if you want, but the broth in this soup is very thin. Looking for something different to add to your watch list?
